Event Audience

  • Therapy and Rehabilitation

Event Goals

  • ● Assess the skill level of participants in designing and fabricating hand splints
  • ● Improve the ability to identify a specific splint design for a specific hand condition
  • ● Each participant will successfully design and fabricate a minimum of two mobilization splints specifically for the hand.
  • ● Every participant will be able to design and fabricate at least one static progressive splint for the hand and upper extremity.
  • ● Each participant will design and fabricate one assistive device aimed at facilitating activities such as eating, writing, and grooming
  • ● Understand the international classification of splinting
  • ● Understand the purpose of mobilization and immobilization splints within the context of occupation based splinting model
  • ● Understand the anatomical and biomechanical principles when designing a splinting pattern
  • ● Get familiar with the characteristics of different low temperature thermoplast materials
  • ● Master the safety and precaution guidelines when fabricating a splint for both practitioners and patients.
  • ● Identify the variety of splinting materials, tools, and accessories
  • ● Provide training and skills on fabricating assistive devices out of thermoplast materials
  • ● Distinguish between different types of splints, including static, dynamic, static progressive, and serial casting
  • ● Identify when a patient will benefit from basic static splints vs progressive static vs dynamic splint
  • ● Design and fabricate a wide range of static, static progressive and dynamic splints of common neuro and orthopedic cases
