Event Goals
- Describe the major anatomical structures of the kidney and their corresponding physiological functions.
- Differentiate between acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease regarding their causes, clinical manifestations, and management strategies.
- Explain the principles of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and the various CRRT modalities, including their indications and potential complications.
- Describe the rationale and process of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in the management of renal diseases, including the potential benefits and risks.
- Identify common electrolyte imbalances observed in dialysis patients and describe their associated signs and symptoms, and appropriate nursing interventions.
- List evidence-based strategies for preventing infections in hemodialysis patients, ensuring adherence to current guidelines.
- Explain the essential components of nursing care for patients with central venous catheters, including insertion, maintenance, and complication management.
- Demonstrate the appropriate technique for care and maintenance of the Central line.
- Demonstrate the steps involved in setting up a CRRT machine.
- Describe the function of the peritoneal membrane in peritoneal dialysis.
- Explain the nursing care required for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis access placement, including pre-operative preparation and post-operative management.
- Identify potential complications associated with peritoneal dialysis and describe the appropriate nursing interventions.
- Describe the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of nephrotic syndrome.
- Demonstrate the correct technique for performing a CAPD and APD.
- Demonstrate the proper steps for assessing and cleaning a peritoneal dialysis catheter exit site.
- Identify the different types of peritoneal dialysis solutions and explain their appropriate use based on patient needs.
