Event Goals

  • 1. Explain the basic principles of electrocardiography, including the electrical conduction system of the heart.
  • 2. Identify the components of a normal ECG waveform (P wave, QRS complex, T wave, etc.) and their physiological significance
  • 3. Demonstrate the correct placement of ECG leads for a standard 12-lead ECG.
  • 4. Analyze and interpret normal sinus rhythm and common arrhythmias (e.g., atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia).
  • 5. Recognize signs of ischemia, infarction, hypertrophy, and electrolyte imbalances on an ECG.
  • 6. Detect critical ECG abnormalities such as ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), ventricular fibrillation, and heart block.
  • 7. Correlate ECG findings with patient symptoms and clinical history.
  • 8. Develop a systematic approach to ECG interpretation to aid in diagnosis using Min Map technique.
