Event Goals

  • By the end of the course, participants will explain the fundamental principles of intravenous admixture preparation, including aseptic techniques, compatibility considerations, and risk mitigation, scoring at least 85% on a written assessment.
  • Participants will correctly calculate medication doses, IV flow rates, and infusion times for intravenous admixtures, achieving at least 90% accuracy in hands-on calculation exercises.
  • Participants will determine patient-specific macronutrient (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) and electrolyte requirements for TPN formulations, ensuring an error rate of less than 5% in practical case-based exercises.
  • By the end of the course, participants will apply evidence-based guidelines to assess the chemical and physical stability of IV admixtures and TPN solutions, correctly identifying at least 90% of incompatibilities in case scenarios.
  • By the final workshop session, participants will recognize and correct calculation errors in IV and TPN orders, reducing critical errors by at least 95% in a simulated pharmacy review.
  • Participants will successfully use pharmaceutical software for IV and TPN calculations, completing at least 5 patient-specific cases within the allotted simulation time of 10 minutes per case.
  • By the end of the course, participants will demonstrate knowledge of regulatory guidelines e.g., USP 797, USP 800, ISMP by accurately applying these standards in a written evaluation with at least 85% accuracy.
  • On Day 5, participants will complete a structured practical assessment, preparing IV admixtures and TPN formulations under simulated conditions, with at least 90% meeting competency standards for accuracy, safety, and adherence to protocols.
